My last trip to Miu Kai was about 3 months ago but my mum kept insisting that we go again, so ended up there once more.

Of course, we would try something different this time.

ImageThis time I had the claypot stewed beef brisket noodle (RM8.90). It was served with "yee mee" in a soup. The soup was excellent - no MSG but still tasted great and claypots help retain the heat within the soup so that it was nice and warm. The beef brisket was at it's usual high standard -right amount of  tenderness and stringiness.

I actually had wanted to try their chicken slices in cheese baked rice but they were already out of that - and this was only 8 pm. OK - so it was a Sunday night but sold out by 8 pm? Must be really good!

My mother had the claypot stewed pig shank noodle (RM8.90) which while tasty had too much bone in it. She didn't really enjoy it.

My wife had the sweet and sour pork rib in claypot (RM9.90). Apart from the right amount of sweetness and sourness, what she really liked about it was that each morsel of meat was warm - kept warm by the heat retention properties of the claypot.

We also had a bowl of shrimp dumpling/"sui kow" in soup (RM6) The soup was good - it had a nice peppery flavour to it - and while the "sui kow" had a good filling of meat and shrimp, the skin was too thick.

My son had their famous egg tart and at RM1.50 per piece it's not exactly cheap but it's about the standard price at such establishments I guess. Anyway it was good. The tarts were so good that they had sold out by the time we finished our dinner at 8:45 pm.

And they gave us free desserts as well - ma tai low - chestnuts in some barley like liquid. Not bad but don't try it with the sweet and sour pork. Not a good combination.

I thought I would be adventurous by trying the boiled coke with ginger (RM3.50) and in the end, interesting is all I can say it was.
