My wife who had just returned from Guangzhou ans she was just commenting how the waitresses would throw the plates on the table there. Imagine her surprise when the waitress at Summer Palace, once a bastion of fine Chinese dining, did the same thing while setting up our table. Not a good sign for someone who had just returned from a harrowing trip to China.
The dim sum which used to very good is not that good anymore.
The glutinous rice (loh mai kai ) was too hard & too salty. And way too dry. You can get better "loh mai kai" in coffee shops.
The Hong Kong Chee Cheong Fun's texture was too rough. It doesn't even compare with the Hong Kong Chee Cheong Fun sold by a street stall in Puchong.
The prawn dumpling, which is always a benchmark of how good the dim sum at a place would be, was only so so The skin was not bad but the prawn inside was not fresh enough. That's really bad. Dim sum must use fresh ingredients.
The egg tart was also bad with the custard being too soft. The other thing to avoid at here is their tea. We had emperor tea and it tasted like water.
About the only thing we enjoyed there that day was the scallop dumpling, which was actually quite good. But that's all. With so many negatives, I would say this is a place better to give a miss.
