My wife had actually been to Fasta Pasta during it's initial days and she found that while the pasta was fresh, the taste was somewhat lacking - maybe it's just not suited to Asian tastes. But she did have a pleasant experience with the chef who asked her how she liked her pasta and when told where it was lacking, offerred to redo the cabonara for her.
More than a year on, we thought it would be safe to give Fasta Pasta a try again. They must have gotten their blend suited to Malaysian taste by now - or so we thought.
Let me start off with iced lemon tea. It looks very "kau" (kau means thick in hokkien), but doesn't taste as "kau" as it looks. There's just not enough lemon in the tea.
Then CN had the large minestrone soup and when it arrived, we were all quite taken at how big the bowl of soup was. The bowl was big enough to put your face in it, but that's the only good thing we can say about it. The soup tasted a bit bland. In fact, CN says Campbell's taste better than it.
The Spaghetti Seafood Olio which FYC had was bad as well. It was spicy but too dry and worse, it tasted fishy in a bad way. MN's Fettucine Cabanora was like "tai luk mee". The fettucine was so thick and so fat that it looked like the fat chinese noodles used for Fried Hokkien Mee. FYC labelled this dish "Gweilo Loh Mee". And the Lasagne - don't even go there. You can get better lasagne from the supermarket - Tricious is one brand I can recommend.
What we can't fault them for was their service. It was friendly, corteous & attentive. While the main meals were a disaster, the free gelati that is offered to every diner on your table if your bill is more than RM100 (This is a Citibank credit card only offer) sort of made up for some of the bad taste of the food.
Gelati
- vanilla is very good
- hazelnut is bad
- mixed berries tastes like expired benedryl with seeds
- mango is not bad
