I had heard about how good the wantan mee at Hung Kee for a long time so one day with KW and AW in tow, I decided to try it out.
Located near the overhead bridge (google map link) opposite the Jalan Loke Yew school on Jalan Loke Yew, it is quite easy to locate.
We asked the proprietor what we was good and she said, "Everything!" OK, there were only three of us - so we settled for 3 plates of "kon low" mee together and had a plate each of "char siew" (barbequed pork), "siew yuk" (roasted pork), "sui kow" (prawn dumplings), braised chicken feet and a lettuce.
The wantan mee was quite fresh and springy though I think the one at PJ New Town is still better, but I think it could still qualify for one of the best in KL.
The "char siew" was really good - one of the best in KL - apart from the one at Jalan Alor, which I have not written a review on yet. Arrgggh - so much good food - so little time. The "siew yuk" while not as good as Mr Ho's at Bangsar Shopping Centre was still excellent. It may have been a bit cold but it was still crispy. In fact, I prefer it to Mooi Mooi's, which is also considered by many to be one of the best in town.
The sui kow and chicken feet was not too bad either.
Next time, maybe we will try their duck and their fried noodles, as there seemed to be quite a number of people ordering it.
Our meal for 3 came up to RM53.50. Wantan mee lunch for RM53.50, can you imagine that. Sure there were all that other assortment but ........
Hung Kee opens for lunch and dinner.
