Dim Sum at Ee Cuisine, Eastin Hotel E-mail

Ee Cuisine at one time was one of the best places in Petaling Jaya to have dim sum. There would be queues getting in and that wouldn't guarantee you of getting a place either. But with more and more restaurants mushrooming all over the Klang Valley - those queues are from days gone by.

It's been a long while since my last visit - the last time I remember being there for dim sum was the major blackout of 2004. So how goes the dim sum now?

The Hong Kong Chee Cheong Fun was quite good - It was smooth and the sauce complemented it well. The fried yam dumpling was also good - the skin was not overly thick and the filling was warm and soft.

However, that was the best of it and almost everything else kind of went downhill from there. The "har kow" (steamed prawn dumpling) was disappointing. The skin was too thin so that when you picked it up, it broke. And the cardinal sin - the prawn was neither fresh nor sweet enough.

The Shanghai dumpling was big but the skin was way too soft. The moment it was picked up, the skin broke and all the soup spilled out. They could take lessons from Suzhou Noodle House. That place still serves the best Shanghai dumpling in town.

The menu stated that the Szechuan Style Smoked Duck would be served with pancakes but it arrived without it. We asked what happenned to it and apparently the chef had told the waiter there were no pancakes. But we insisted as that was what they wrote on the menu - so state your rights - don't let the chef bully you. However, we were pretty pleased with the trainee waiting on us - he was attentive and made sure that our needs were attended to.

Oh, the tea was very good but expensive.
