Finally a review on Meng Kee's Char Siew, claimed by many to be the best "char siew" (barbequed pork) in Kuala Lumpur. Their claim to fame is the special marinade that they use which makes their "char siew" crispier and juicier than others.

Is it really that good? Is it the best? Well, it depends - if you like the "char siew" to be really sweet - then I guess this place is for you. If you like it to be a bit more savoury, then perhaps you won't like this "char siew" as much. I actually would prefer if they were easier on the sugar.

The rice was sticky and soggy - not the way I like my rice. We also had their steamed chicken which is edible but they don't claim that their chicken to be best, so that's OK. The soup was OK and my dining partner, KW, enjoyed their chili as well. I didn't think it was that great - didn't have enough kick.

Despite all the tables being full, service here is very fast. Food arrives within 10 minutes of getting a place to sit. However, the place looks very run down and the floor is very slippery. I guess there will be some who might find it a bit squeamish going inside - but depending how you like your char siew - you might find it a rewarding experience.
