My wife wanted to buy me a nice treat for birthday and she had planned a wonderful dinner at Villa Danielli, one of our favourite restaurants. But of course, the best laid plans were soon thwarted by work so instead of going down to the Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur for dinner, we decided that we would have dinner in Petaling Jaya instead.
We both immediately thought of Jack's Place at One Utama. We had passed by it before and the pictures of their steaks looked pretty appealling.
We started with the Crab & Lobster Stuffed Mushrooms (RM18). The picture in the menu suggested a very healthy serving but what arrived was a relativly small serving. We had been fooled!
My wife had the Fire Steak (RM41.50) which was quite heavily doused with brandy and set aflame in front of your eyes right before it is served to you. Certainly an "A" for presentation. I had Jack's Special Steak (RM42) which was a fillet tenderloin served with their special sauce.
While the meat was thick and succulent and they can even get medium rare rightly done - somehow the meat lacked taste in it. Somehow it felt a bit bland.
On the plus side, food orders are processed very fast, eventhough the restaurant had a fair crowd. They must have a very well organized kitchen.
Jack's Place is certainly not a cheap place to eat but it is still one of the better places to have steak in Petaling Jaya.
