Hoo Yee Kee Penang Mee York - that is how they spell it here. Penang Mee Yoke is called Prawn Mee or Prawn Noodles in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya. But I really don't bother how they spell it or what they call it, I know I like prawn noodles.

Like I had written earlier article on the Prawn Noodles at Jalan Penchala, the most important factor is the soup. If the soup tastes like water, then the prawn noodle there is bad. The soup at Hoo Yee Kee is certainly not bad. In fact, the moment I stepped out of my car, we could smell the soup already. So that was a good sign.

However, when we tasted the soup, it was a bit on the sweet side. I actually prefer the soup at Jalan Penchala which oddly enough did not smell as good. So sometimes the smell is not a perfect indicator. For RM3.80 for a standard bowl of Prawn Noodles, you certainly get quite a big bowl. If you wish to add extras like pork ribs or "lala", it's RM2.70 onwards per serving. Or you could have the special, which is RM12 per bowl.

I didn't think too much of the pork ribs. It was too bony for me. And the meat wasn't very fresh. The big winner here was actually the drinks. We tried the Jasmine Tea and the Ice Honey Lemon Tea and they were wonderful thirst quenchers. Altogether, the meal for the 3 of us came up to RM36. Not a place for a cheap meal but if you need a place to eat good food till the wee hours of the morning, then this is the place. Hoo Yee Kee operates almost 24x7, 365 days a year. Almost - they have of days but they try to remain open all throughout the year even during Chinese New Year.
