Chicken Pie - click me One of the joys of doing this site is the people that it has introduced me to. Recently a reader, Sherlene, suggested that I should try out the chicken pie at a Kuala Lumpur restaurant called Vanilla Box and together with the guru of Brickfields food, Don, we decided to have lunch there not too long ago.

Vanilla Box is located on the Asian Heritage Row which is just right beside the Sheraton Imperial. The Asian Heritage Row is where some of the more classier dining establishments are found and since I don't review fine dining much, it's not a location I often go to. Vanilla Box, however, is not your typical Asian Heritage Row restaurant. It's nondescript on the outside and inside, the decor is very homely and simple - it almost feels like a neighbourhood restaurant. Another thing that you will notice is that the dining area is actually quite small compared to the kitchen area. The proprietor clearly feels that comfort to those who prepare the food is an important factor in producing good food.

The chicken pie (RM13.90) moves quickly here, so it'll be best to have it reserved before you get there.
The puff pastry of the chicken pie is good enuff to eat on it's own and the smell stays in your hand even after awhile. I loved the smell of it. The soup filling inside the pie was clearly made of very good ingredient and you can taste the goodness in it. While it's a bit less thick than the way I would usually have my chicken pie, I found out the reason why it's done this way is that the starch doesn't hide the flavour of the soup.

Chocolate Puff - click me After our main meals, we had some desserts as well. Sherlene says the cakes here are awesome but we only had room for some chocolate puffs which were indeed full of creamy goodness on the inside and topped up on the outside with Belgian chocolate.

Lunch for 3 persons came up to RM66. Not bad for a Heritage Row establishment.

Parking is relatively easy, just right behind the Asian Heritage Row. Parking costs RM3.
