Recently I read that researchers at the UCLA & the Greater Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Healthcare have concluded that curcumin, the substance that gives curry spice tumeris its yellow pigment, may actually help combat Alzheimer's disease. Part of that conclusio, apart from their lab tests, is that India's elderly has a much lower incidence of neurological disease than their contemporaries in the United States. So eating more c curry may actually be good for you. Never mind that if you often eat curry that has a lot of coconut milk in it, that may lead to increased heart disease.
Well, anyway I don't need that research to give me a push to eat curry. Having heard about the two Sri Paandi stores in PJ, I decided that I would give them a try. I went to the one with the PJ in its name.
I have been to the Sri Paandi in Brickfields, courtesy of my friend Don and the food there was good. Sri Paandi PJ is operated by a former partner of the original Sri Paandi and there is definitely a rivalry going on between the two stores. I thought I would give the PJ one a try just to try out how the food is.
Mistake. I had a thosai and my wife had a roti canai. Both these were OK but what killed it was their curry. The fish curry was very fishy and was not spicy at all. The taste - almost non-existent. In fact, I left my plate unfinished. Service was not very attentive and the waiters didn't look very happy to be serving us.
There may be other stuff that they do well but I didn't see it that day. Indian curry may be brain food, but I am not going to get it here.
