click me If your are here for the first time and you thought you were heading to CharKueyTeow.com (courtesy of the food article in The Star) - you are at the right place. Waisikkai.com was originally known as CharKueyTeow.com and I guess some people still remember the site by that name. Maybe it's a more common word to most Malaysians. It was a great honour to have the Waisikkai.com/ CharKueyTeow.com mentioned just below friedchillies which is really the pioneer of food sites in Malaysia.

Waisikkai.com or CharKueyTeow.com - you are now here. So enjoy reading!

Since starting this site with Lawrence P'ng back in October 2003, the site has grown from just covering Char Kuey Teow (Char Kueh Teow, Char Koay Teow, Char Koey Tiau - or however you wish to spell it) to covering all sorts of food - especially street food.

I use the term street food to include street type (or hawker - as it the term is more commonly known here) food sold in Malaysia. So this means laksa, keow teow th'ng, chee cheong fun, yong tow foo, yau char kwai, hokkien mee, hokkien char, bak kut teh, etc are all included.

There is now a Forum as well, so you can post your comments easily.

The Food Discounts link tells you where the food promotions are. Of course, it is still being built up so it'll be awhile before it becomes heavily populated. You would find it quite handy if you have a smartphone as it will display quite nicely on it.

To the uninitiated - Wai Sik Kai (or sometimes spelt by some as Wai Sek Kai - it doesn't really matter) is the cantonese term for glutton's street or more politically correct food street. The chinese culture places food very highly and the first greeting asked of a person would be "Have you eaten yet?" So I guess this is my small way of preserving and announcing my Chinese heritage. :-) Ya, the banana proclaiming his heritage.
