Tom Yeo had told me about the good food available around the Sungai Buloh area and I guess this DeepaRaya holiday was a good time to take up his offer of exploring the area. Tom brought us to one of his favourite restaurants in Kampung Subang (which was one of the new villages designated during Malaysia's period of Emergency) and we arrived during a downpour. We were thinking of sitting it out in the car until the rain subsided but we were greeted by two men with huge umbrellas to walk us into the restaurant. Now that's 5 star service.

What can one eat at a new village restaurant? Read on.
We had their German pork knuckle which really was the star dish of the night. The pork is brought in from Ipoh on a daily basis and according to the chef, this pig is washed everyday therefore it does not have the normal smell of pork.Did it make a difference to the taste test? I am not really sure but one thing I can say is that some places tend to make this dish too salty. Not the case here. The taste was just nice. What was missing was perhaps a bottle of red wine to go with it.

We had a fried fish with a cincalok sauce and petai which my wife absolutely loved except that she said the petai was not potent enough. By not being potent, she means it doesn't smell too much - which is a blessing for me but not for petai lovers.

The other dish that we enjoyed immensely was the "ma mit kai" (fried chicken with a honey sauce). The sauce was a wonderful complement to the chicken. In fact, the sauce goes quite well with the pork as well.

Another dish that they are famour for is the pork rib braised with yam served in a claypot. Next time.
