Dim Sum at Royal China, Jalan Ampang E-mail

When you are a member of a chain of restaurants, it sometimes could be a bad thing or a good thing. The Tai Thong chain of restaurants is by and large known for it's somewhat spotty quality where the some of the restaurants in the group really don't do their name justice. Despite my fears about the quality of food at their restaurants, I was nevertheless, back at one of their outlets not too long ago.

This was the Royal China on Jalan Ampang and we had brought a foreign friend there for dim sum and surprisingly we were not too disappointed. The dim sum took a bit of time coming, which they attribute to the fact that every plate of dim sum is individually steamed.

The quality of the dim sum was quite decent especially the Hong Kong chee cheong fun. That was actually quite good with the cheong fun being very smooth and felt like it was gliding down my throat as I consumed it. The other dish that we enjoyed was the roast pork. We didn't realize that their roast pork was a standout until we tried out. We kind of spied the table next to us having it and it looked really good so we decided we didn't want to lose out. It was a good choice.

The only disappointment was the prawn dumpling which was not that fresh or succulent. Still it was a pretty good meal all around.
