We had planned to have dim sum at Noble House one Sunday morning but we were rudely told by the captain there they were not open yet eventhough we had been told by the jockey thay they were open. This is customer dis-service. I wouldn't have mind if she had nicely said to my wife that they were not open yet and that we could come back a half hour later but shouting at the customer is a definite no-no. And Noble House is supposed to be one of the Oriental Group's flagship restaurants. Instead we headed for Happy Valley, one of Tai Thong's restaurants. What a contrast in terms of service. They first asked how they should greet us & then on seeing that my mother was carrying a big bag, asked whether she would like an extra chair to put her bag on. Now that's attention to customer needs. The first dish to arrive was the fried carrot cake which was quite good. The carrot was nicely fried so it was almost crisp on the outside but still soft on the inside. The taugeh was fresh but perhaps too little 'choy poh'
The hong kong cheong fun was quite smooth though the char siew was not that good. The "har kow" (prawn dumpling) was quite good. The har kow's skin was firm enough to be held but the taste of the prawn was not found in the skin. However, Bernice liked it and asked for a second tray. The siew mai was not that good. The szechuan dumpling was really not very szechuanese at all. I expected the sauce that came with it to have been more spicy but it really tasted more like tomato sauce. The shanghai dumpling was too dry. One annoying thing is that there was renovation going on which really disrupted the ambience of our dining experience. Note to restaurant owners - do your renovation when there are no patrons in the premises. Our bill came up to RM95.45 for 3 adults and 2 children. Good customer service, not that great food and disturbing renovation. Still I would come back here over Noble House for the better customer service.
