Ming Court Dim Sum, Ipoh E-mail

ming court dim sum ipohOn the way up to Penang we decided that we should have breakfast in Ipoh and what better breakfast than dim sum. Eric & Li Ping recommended that we should try out the dim sum and especially the har kow "prawn dumpling" at Ming Court. It's been a very long time since I had been to Ipoh so it took me a little bit longer than usual to get there. I just looked out for the Excelsior Hotel to locate the place. Still it was just about 1 hour 45 minutes to get to Ipoh from PJ. Ipohmali had mentioned ming kok before so I am wondering whether it's the same as ming court.

We arrived at 8 am and lined outside the restaurant were quite a number of students from a local school seeking donations. Clever boys - they know how to zero in on a popular destination and since you are going to spend some monies on a good breakfast, you would probably not mind giving them 50 sen or a ringgit.

Apart from the students that you have to fight pass to get into the restaurant, you'll also have to fight for a place to sit. I suppose it's not a conducive place to come to when you have very young children or old people in your group as it could be pretty stressful trying to get a place on a weekend. However, after that it's pretty smooth as the waitresses attend to your needs very quickly. The presentation of the food is not pretty and it would probably not look very appetizing, so that's why I am not featuring pictures of it. Instead I featured the busy-ness of the people there.

The dim sum are very small. Well after all dim sum is supposed to only touch your heart and not really fill your stomach, so perhaps they are following that principle. The "har kow" was quite good as was the fried fish ball. The other stuff were not too bad too. I quite enjoyed the Hong Kong chee cheong fun.

If you want a nice quiet place to have breakfast, this is not the place. If you want a good dim sum breakfast, this is quite good. Bernice said it was better than having McDonald's for breakfast. Coming from a 10 year old, that is high praise.

Our meal for 5 totalled RM43.00
