I had discovered Hakka Rang together with Eric & Lips about a couple of weeks ago but I didn't get a chance to write about it until now. Since we were there the last time, Eric & Lips had been there several times more. They have made that one of their regular haunts. Hakka Rang serves Hakka food and I wanted to bring my wife to try this place to get a Hakka's perspective of the food.
A signature Hakka food is the fried abacus seeds (shin poon chi). It is so named because the dish made from glutinous rice looks very much like the seeds used on a chinese abacus. The abacus seeds are wonderfully tasty and has a wonderful texture.
The claypot curry fish head was also very good. The curry had a strong aroma of curry leaf but what was outstanding was the fish head. The fish head is first fried and then put into the curry to be soaked in. The fish head was very fresh. I only wish there was meat in it. However, if there is a dish that I could simply eat my rice with is their claypot bean curd ball (tau foo pok). It is really excellent. The soup and the bean curd ball are wonderfully tasty and even if I have nothing else, I would gladly just settle for the tau foo pok.
Parking is relatively easy to find here and the best part is that it is still free. Don't know how long that will be so though.
