Dim Sum at Crystal Jade, Pavillion Kuala Lumpur E-mail

Pavillion certainly ranks among my favourite shopping centres now because it is well laid out, good mix of retail outlets, the parking bays are big and not least of which, I have now found that it has one of the best places to have dim sum.

Crystal Jade is not a new name in town. It's been around for awhile, beginning with it's first outlet at Lot 10. Initially, what I head about it was that it was famous for their "La Mian". "La Mian" is literally pulled noodles. The noodles are freshly made on the premises and the texture of the noodle is supposed to be springier than your normal variety of noodles.

Since that was what they were famous for, I had the beef brisket noodle which was excellent. My friend had the Beef Noodle with Ginger & Shallot which was also very good. The beef is so tender when you bite it, it cuts into two pieces. My only complain is that the portions are somewhat small, if noodles are all that you are having. But perhaps there's a reason to keep the portion small because you certainly don't want to miss their dim sum.

Crystal Jade does not have many varieties of dim sum. However, what they lack in variety they make up in quality. The dim sum here is among the best that I have had in Kuala Lumpur. The Siew Mai was very succulent. I could feel the juice seeping out on to my tongue as I bit into it.

The Har Kow was very fresh & sweet as well. Perhaps the skin was a tad dry but nonetheless, it did not detract my enjoyment of it too much.

The Egg Tart was also very good. The puff pastry having just the right amount of firmness to have a crisp feeling but not overly hard that it required too much work to bite into it.

But the gem was left to the last. We had a "Char Siew Sou" (barbecued pork pastry) which was absolutely to die for. The char siew was sweet and savoury at the same time and the pastry was beautifully crisp and soft at the same time.
Even as I am writing this, I am dreaming of another bite of it.
