Edward, my fellow colleague and food lover, had been raving about this awesome char siew (barbecued pork) wantan mee at the eateries near KLIA's Concorde Inn for the longest time. So one Saturday, we decided to take him up on his offer of directing us there. I say directing because I was the one who was the designated driver.
Using the new Maju expressway to KLIA made the trip there a really quick one. We were there in 25 minutes and we quickly settled ourselves in to a table close enough to the stall for the food to arrive fast but far enough that the heat would not affect us. The food arrived very quickly but we could not dig into it as our photographer, Ariel, took her time in taking the photos and it did not help that her favourite lens was acting up. Argghhh! It took us longer to wait for her to finish taking the photographs than for me to drive there. OK, I exaggerate but it certainly took longer than the time it took for the food to arrive after we ordered it! Oh, if you notice towards the end of the video, the char siew disappears away as Ariel decides to make the whole plate of char siew her own.
Edward had ordered a plate of chicken, a bowl of wantan and the reason why we had driven 30KM to get here - the most awesome char siew, with our plates of noodles. Let's start with the chicken. The chicken was OK but nothing to shout about. The wantan was surprisingly good. They were a good size so it felt good to bite into them and the soup had a good peppery taste.
Now for the main course. Was it what Edward made it out to be? It was as he had described it, half fat and half lean meat and it tasted gooooooooooooooooood. Thomas, you missed out on a good thing just because you could not wake up. I agree with Ariel, you are no foodie. You are a pretender.
Our meal for 4 came up to RM46 and I think the drive was worth it. They are closed on one Sunday of the month and the best time to get there is just ahead of the lunch crowd.
