It seems that this is a very popular name for restaurants. I can remember at least 3. Anyway this latest Seng Kee that I have discovered has actually been around for a long time, just that I did not know about it.
It's located on Kuala Lumpur's Jalan Sultan, 50000 KL, just before the turn into Jalan Davidson. It's a store with no signboard but it's easy to find because they do space sharing with Nam Heong Chicken Rice at night. So if you want to eat in a more comfortable environment, seat yourself in Nam Heong Chicken Rice shop. Otherwise you can eat al fresco in front of their stall which is about 3 doors away.
Revision - 11/11/04 - they now have a brightly lit signboard - Chinatown Old Seng Kee Restautant So what's good here. They have really awesome fried hokkien mee (the black type), claypot "low see" fun and excellent fried "sui kow".
I usually only have the fried hokkien mee and fried "sui kow". The fried hokkien mee is way better than the other supposedly famous fried hokkien mee stall near the Popular Book Store at nearby Jalan Petaling.
This fried hokkien mee rocks! All the necessary ingredients are there especially the lard!! Fat is flavour, says Anthony Bourdain and I certainly will have no objections about that. (Just in case, you want to know when he said that - he mentioned that in the episode of Cook's Tour where he went Portugal)
But back to the fried hokkien mee, the noodles had just the right amount of wetness so that it did not stick together but not too much that it feels like it's a gravy. The taste was exquisite without the charring that comes with some other lesser hands that try to do fried hokkien mee. Truly a master at work here. Remember, they are only open at night.
